The blue crowned conure is also called the blue-crowned parakeet, and sharp-tailed conure.  It is known as the most intelligent conure.  It is larger and has a bluer head than other species, plus it has a reddish undertail, and pale feet often visible during flight.
The blue crowned conure will travel in pairs, and it is often seen in small, noisy flocks.  In larger aggregations outside breeding season, it is seen where food is abundant.  The sexes are similar on plummage, and they feed in trees, bushes, and on the ground.
There are many blue crowned conures in captivity. More than 94,000 birds were exported from Argentina 1985-1990.
