The prerequisite for this course is a grade of at lease C- in 25310, Data
Structures.
Text:
Object Oriented Application Development Using Java
by E. Doke, John W. Satzinger, and Susan Rebstock Williams
Publisher: Course Technology
ISBN: 061903565X
This book is available in the College Bookstore. A used copy is sufficient.
A new copy comes with software and data files, but I will provide the
software and data files that you will need for this course.
Attendance.
During the class meetings we will discuss some topics and examples that are
not in the textbook. The textbook is a road map, not an exposition of
the course content. Moreover, we will be doing a substantial amount of
hand-on exercises in class. You should plan to attend each class.
Assignments.
I will give assignments which I will grade. I do not accept late work. The work you submit for grading
should be your own, independent work.
Examinations.
During the semester I will give three in-class exams on dates that I will
announce in advance.
The time for the final exam is Monday, December 19, 8:30 - 10:30 A.M.
I will not give make-up exams for the in-class exams. I will excuse you from
an in-class or the final exam only if you present substantial documentation of a
serious illness or personal emergency that prevented your attendance.
Grades.
I will compute your grade from a course average with the following weights:
assignments - 40%
in-class exams - 10% each
final exam - 30%,
provided you have a passing exam average. I will not give you a passing
grade in the course if your exam average is not passing.
Blackboard
I will post material for this course on Blackboard.
Notice.
I do not permit my classes to be recorded.
I enforce the College policies that prohibit eating and drinking in classrooms.
Please cooperate by respecting these regulations.
