[ A Letter from the Founder of LIGHTCongress ]

J. Jeffrey Johnston | President | The Greystone Project

Welcome to the movement.

A longtime friend of this event and frequent valued contributor, Bill Warren, made an interesting comment to me at this year's LIGHTCongress. He said it was clear we have been successful in bringing the core of the industry together, and that our exploratory commentary is what's necessary for the positive future of the lighting industry. His point was, from a content approach, LIGHTCongress is achieving its goals. However, it's now our responsibility to disseminate these messages and bring them to a wider audience, to extend our reach into the industry even further, and also to the general populace.

In many ways, lighting is the barometer of many things – energy usage and fossil fuel consumption and waste, pollution and green issues, new technologies, architectural design, construction intelligence. We've achieved our principal goal in LIGHTCongress – to take it from a forward-thinking symposium to what it has become – the barometer of the lighting industry, and quite possibly other related industries as well.

Once again, a sincere thank you to our panelists, moderators and advisory board for your brilliance, support and knowledge. Collectively, you have raised the bar for all of us – and given us the next challenge – to succeed and exceed in 2008. And we will. Also, thank you to our sponsors – your considerable generosity and respectful acknowledgement of LIGHTCongress' purpose has made this event possible.

In 2008, we will bring new thoughts to what lighting designer Gustavo Aviles has called "The LIGHTCongress movement." Thank you Gustavo, and to everyone involved. See you next spring in New York.
