Biography

Dr. Hadi Salavitabar earned a B.A. with honors from Tehran University in 1975, a M.A. from Pennsylvania State University in 1980, and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1982. He was the Chair of the Department of Business Administration from September 1992 to May 1995, before becoming the Associate Dean of the School of Engineering and Business Administration, as well as the Director of    Business Programs in June 1995. From January 2000 to January 2001, Dr. Salavitabar was the Acting Dean of the School of Engineering & Business Administration before becoming the first Dean of the newly established School of Business.

His primary research interests are in the areas of finance and statistics.  His published articles are: "Senatorial Responsiveness, The Characteristics of the Polity and the Political Cycle" in Public Choice (jointly with Kenneth V. Greene), "Non-Profit Firms Versus Regulated Monopolies: A Welfare comparison" in New York Economics Review (jointly with Thomas G. Cowing), "Global Portfolios with Market, Size and Value Considerations" in Allied Social Sciences Associations, 1999 on-line Proceedings (jointly with Tulin Sener), "Optimal Portfolio Shares with International Assets" in Northeast Business & Economic Association, 2001 Proceedings (jointly with Tulin Sener), "Challenges of Global Investing Assuming Segmentation" presented at the Annual Meeting of the Academy of International Business, Phoenix, Arizona, October 18 -21, 2000 (jointly with Tulin Sener), and “Region and Industry Effects on the Equity Returns of Emerging Markets” in Association for Global Business Annual Conference 2002 Proceedings, Volume 13, PP. 116-123 (jointly with Tulin Sener).

Dr. Salavitabar’s books, Financial Analysis Made Easy (FAME), Statistical Analysis Routines (STAR), Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management (INVEST), and Business Policy and Strategic Planning (STRATEGIST) have been published by Harper & Row, Allyn & Bacon, and Richard D. Irwin, Inc.  He has also written a number of supplemental books in the area of finance, which have been published by HarperCollins Publishers and Addison Wesley Longman Publishers.  Finally, he co-edited conference proceedings on Economic Development and the Quality of Life: How the Next 5 Years Can Shape Our Future.  He directed a symposium on "The Impact of the Third-party Payor and Government on Health Care Services and Expenditures."

Dr. Salavitabar was the recipient of the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Excellence In Teaching in 1991. On May 9, 1997, he was awarded Honorary Member of Delta Zeta Chapter for the Alpha Beta Gamma International Business Honor Society. In October 2001, Dr. Salavitabar was awarded the Distinguished Teacher of the Year award by the Alumni  Association of the State University of New York at New Paltz.  Dr. Salavitabar was the founder and advisor of the Financial Management Association (FMA) - New Paltz  Chapter. FMA - New Paltz was the recipient of the International FMA's Superior or Outstanding Honor awards for six consecutive years. 

In the regional community, Dr. Salavitabar serves on the business advisory boards of the Dutchess County Community College and Ulster County Community College. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Trustees of the Kingston Regional Health Care System & The Kingston Hospital, a member of the Mid-Hudson Valley Technology Council, and the Chairman of Region I of the Hudson Valley Blood Services. Dr. Salavitabar is a Trustees of the Ulster Savings Bank.
