November 5: An Election Enjoyed

When the protest marches started, we were told to stay at home and avoid going out. For example, all the peace corps volunteers have been ordered to lock themselves in their apartments and not come out. Agoraphobes to a man, we ran to the Tsentralnii Rinok and stocked up on the revolutionary observers' classic: caviar. We just missed the crowd in Freedom Square on our way home.

I took a few pictures from the TV and here is Saakashvili, the real winner of the elections (note: this opinion is not shared by some). The type at the top of the screen says "pirdapiri" which literally means direct, or straight ahead (useful in a taxi), but in this context means LIVE.

French champagne was outside our budget (and georgian champagne is not to my taste), but there is one bottling of Tsinandali that is not too bad, so it was that, red fish eggs, smetana, served with an ominously named sausage called "Turista."

Bill (stalwart fellow and redhead!) came over and translated bits of speeches from Georgian.

In short, we are doing well so far, but Mary Neal's Main Worry is that supply lines will be cut off, and the caviar will run out.

Viva La Revolution!
