Black Bear (Ursus americanus)
Where They Live : North America and Northern Mexico forest and woodland.

Size : Females 100-200 pounds, males 10-50% heavier, 5-6 feet long, 3 feet high.

Lifespan : Maximum of 32 years recorded in the wild..

Breeding : Mating May-July.  Gestation is 210-220 days.  Usually 2-3 cubs are born.

Habits : Solitary.

Diet : Insects, berries, fruits, eggs, fish, rodents, honey, vegetables, and fresh meat.

    The North American black bear is the smallest black bear, and the least aggressive.  Hunting and agriculture have made the black bear retreat to areas of heavy woods where about 80,000 survive.
