You've Been Asked to Review a Concert!!
Using Grove and DYNIX Together

Tools That you'll need:

1.  The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (2001), all volumes

2.  One or more works from our Reference collection (your choice)

3.  DYNIX, our Online Catalog

4.  Access to the Music STACKS collection ("the M area) of our library

You have been asked by the editor of Hudson Valley Arts News to review the annual Faculty Sampler concert.

In order to prepare for your review, you'll need to assemble some resources about the pieces that you'll hear.  Fortunately, you have 2 important resources:  the program for the upcoming concert, and a library right next door!!

In order to assist you in assembling the right materials, we suggest you:

1.  USE DYNIX to find the SCORES of the pieces on the program.  In the area below, write down how you performed the search, what words you searched under, and the call number(s) of the scores.

The Number of the search (from the DYNIX main screen):_________

The term(s) you used:___________________________________

Briefly describe the results you got:

The Title, author, and call number of the book(s) you chose:

2.  USE DYNIX to locate at least one book about the composer of the work, or the genre of the pieces on the program, or the history of music of the country of the music's origin.  In the area below, describe how you did your search, and write down the call numbers of the books you think might work.
