(1)
Proposal for course number 87250 from the Sociology Department.
This
course, titled Crime and Society, was proposed for the Social Science content
category and both the Systematic Inquiry and Ethical Reflection critical
thinking competency categories of the GEIII.
Generally, this proposal was strong and the course matched the criteria
of the appropriate GE categories.
We
approved this course unanimously.
(2)
Proposal for course number 71343 from the Philosophy Department:
This
course, titled Aesthetics, was proposed for the Humanities content category and
the Systematic Inquiry and Effective Expression (written) critical thinking
competency categories of the GEIII. The
proposal was generally appropriate. Previously,
this course had been proposed under the “Arts” GEIII category; the proposers
changed their minds subsequently. The
narrative was written in sufficient detail and it covered the points that are
required of the process.
We
approved this proposal unanimously.
(3) Proposal for course number 71251 from the
Philosophy Department:
This
course, titled Indian Philosophy, was proposed to meet the World Civilization
and Cultures content category and the Systematic Inquiry, Effective Expression
(Written), and Ethical Reflection critical thinking competency categories of
the GEIII.
The
capacity in which this course would address issues pertaining to the ethical
reflection category were not particularly clear in the sample syllabus. Otherwise, this proposal worked well.
We
approved this proposal unanimously pending changes to the sample syllabus that
would underscore the ethical reflection critical thinking categories more
thoroughly
Respectfully
