Liberal Arts and Sciences Senate Subcommittee C Meeting

Tuesday, November 12, 2002, 3:30pm

Members present: Bruce Milem (Philosophy), Glenn Geher (Psychology, chair), Sharon Holmberg (Nursing), Susan Lehrer (Sociology)

(1) Three Psychology proposals were discussed.  These included 80580 (Fieldwork in Counseling I/Practicum), 80581 (Fieldwork in Counseling II/Internship), 80582 (Fieldwork in Counseling III/Advanced Internship).  Glenn provided context by explaining that these classes are basically modified versions of classes that have been taught for some time in the Psychology Department.  The main changes included (a) name changes (omitting ‘psychology’ from titles and emphasizing ‘counseling’), (b) credit changes (from 3 to 4 for each course), and (c) 20 hours of required on-site time for the 80581 and 80582.  These changes are part of the change from a 36 to a 48-credit MA program.  This general credit-related change is designed to allow the program to be considered for CACREP accreditation.  Such accreditation would increase the prestige of the program and would allow graduates to be more marketable.

These proposals were all supported unanimously.

(2) Meeting adjourned at 4:00.

Respectfully submitted, 11-12-02
