New York State K-8 Math Mentor Academy

A N N O U N C E M E N T

The New York State K-8 Mathematics Mentors Project is pleased to invite applications from pre-service teachers and novice teachers in elementary and middle school education from New York state colleges and universities and schools to participate in the spring institute 2005.

Selected teachers will be awarded NYS K-8 Math Mentor Academy membership, a certificate, reimbursement of room and board and travel expenses, a copy of all materials distributed, and a modest stipend.  At this institute, the selected teachers will have many opportunities to network with lead teachers, staff-developers, district coordinators, BOCES instructors from across the state, as well as representatives from the state Education Department.  A great variety of hands-on workshops will be offered throughout the institute.

Candidates for the award must be recommended by a mentor of the project.  Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to either currently or in the future work in a high need district.  Candidates should complete the application form and the following documents (all must be typewritten, double spaced):

Pre-service and novice teachers of underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.  Candidates will be notified by March 18.  The spring institute is scheduled for April 21 and 22 at the Holiday Inn in Kingston, NY.
