- Q: What is Zimbra
- A: Zimbra is a ‘groupware’ e-mail server. It is used for e-mail, calendars (shared and personal), address books (shared and personal) and more. We have already switched all former users of the GroupWise system over to Zimbra.
- Q: When I switch to Zimbra, will I have all my e-mail, addresses, and calendar information moved over?
- If you are currently using NPMail’s webmail, all e-mail will be moved and we can copy over your address book at your request.
- If you are accessing NPMail through Thunderbird, see the Thunderbird-Zimbra page.
- Any other program or device is not supported and we cannot guarantee your mail and data can be moved over.
- Q: Is anyone be able to use Zimbra?
- A: Zimbra is open to all current SUNY New Paltz Faculty & Staff. It is not available for outside contractors working for the college or student teaching supervisors at this time.
- Q: Do I have to switch?
- A: All GroupWise users were required to switch, and that system was shut down in late 2008. NPMail users do not have to switch, but can choose to switch due to advantages of the new system.
- Q: If I use Zimbra, will my e-mail address change?
- A: Your username@newpaltz.edu address will remain your e-mail address, and all mail sent to that will be routed to your Zimbra account.
- Q: What are the advantages of Zimbra over NPMail?.
- A: There are three major advantages. The first is there is more storage space available. The second is that the system is faster. The third is the 'GroupWare' capabilities such as the calendar, and the ability to share calendars (along with the ability to share other information such as mail folders and address books).
- Q: How can I access Zimbra if I am switched
- A: Access to Zimbra is done primarily through the Zimbra web client. We also support access through Mozilla Thunderbird (though you must set this up yourself if you decide to use it). We do not support access via other means at this time (including Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.).
- Q: Are there training sessions available?
- A: None are scheduled at this time. You can use the Help pages available at: www.newpaltz.edu/zimbra along with the built-in help pages in Zimbra. If you need, you can make an appointment with Paul Chauvet (chauvetp@newpaltz.edu) for training on the system.
- Q: How do I switch?
- A: E-mail Paul Chauvet at: chauvetp@newpaltz.edu and ask to be switched. You'll be switched over (usually within the week).
- Q: Can I access Zimbra through my iPhone or iPod Touch?
- A: Yes! Just see the instructions at: www.newpaltz.edu/zimbra/zimbra-iphone.html
