Getting Started


If you are a faculty or staff member and would like installation support, call x3775 or send an e-mail message to wcg-help@newpaltz.edu.

If you have an older computer, please check the the system requirements before proceeding.

If you are an experienced computer user, you may want to go directly to www.worldcommunitygrid.org with your browser. There are links and instructions which can guide you through the installation of the agent.

Below are detailed instructions on installing the agent and joining the SUNY New Paltz team. Even if you are an experienced computer user, you may find it useful to review these instructions.

All of the links to the World Community Grid web site will open in a separate browser window. You can go back and forth between the instructions and the World Community Grid web site using the Task Bar at the bottom of the screen.

Download the software and become a member

  1. Go to the World Community Grid download page and download the software.
  2. When downloading the software, you may be given the option to Run or Open the program (WorldCommunityGridAgent.exe). You may also be given the option to Save the program file on your computer.
    • If you are given an option to Run or Open the program, do so.
    • If the program file is Saved on your computer, then you may need to determine the drive location where it has been saved. Once you have found the WorldCommunityGridAgent program file, Run (or Open) it.
    Follow the prompts in the installation program to complete the installation. You will be asked to agree to the software license agreement.
  3. When the World Community Grid agent program starts, you will be asked to set up a member account. At this time you must choose a member name and a password. To select your member name, please choose something other than your real name. Once your member account is registered, the agent will begin the first Task.

    Now that World Community Grid agent is installed, it should start running in the background whenever you log into your computer. You should see a logo icon in the System Tray at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

Join the team

  1. Go to the World Community Grid home page.
  2. Log into with your member name and password at the top of the page. On the first login, you will need to verify your password reset settings and e-mail address.
  3. Then, go to our team page and click on the button labeled join this team on the right side of the page.
  4. A message should be displayed that confirms that your member account has joined the team.
