Retreats

The Student Christian Center has five retreats each year:

Rafting Retreat

Each Fall in early September we travel to Lander's River Tours on the Delaware River - about an hour and one-half away - where we rent 5-person rubber rafts (everyone gets a paddle). We cover ten miles, rafting leisurely, swimming, and splashing each other as we go!

We stay overnight at First Presbyterian Church in Port Jervis and we worship on Sunday morning together.

The Rafting Retreat's a great way to make new friends and get those last warm rays of summer on the river. Plus it's lots of fun!

Fall Retreat in Vermont

In early October (first weekend) we head for the Green Mountains of Vermont for a weekend together in a chalet. While there we worship with the Brothers of the Weston Priory, a Benedictine order of Catholic monks who are ecumenical and compose/play wonderful Christian music for their worship services. We learn about their community life also.

In addition to our time at the Priory, we hike and canoe on a nearby wilderness lake. After daytime activity, we share songs or just relax by the fire at the chalet. We also browse country shops in Weston and cook meals together. It's a special time away for spiritual renewal and community-building in Christ.

Winter Retreat at Ashokan Lodge

Our Winter Retreat takes place at the College's Ashokan Lodge. The Winter Retreat is a great weekend! Plan on it the first weekend in February. Theme, winter sports (snowtubing, ice broom hockey, skating), worship, Agape meal, fireside singing, dance, sauna, Bible study, Cathedral Gorge hike, time to reflect and enjoy the beauty of God's nature. A Presenter engages us in the theme with lively discussion. Saturday is bluegrass dance night - always fun! We share in workshops like maple sugaring. It's a great time to make new friends!

Spring Retreat at Stony Point

The Stony Point Spring Retreat is an ecumenical gathering of college students from all over the Northeast. We share in creative worship, lively fellowship, a trip to NYC to explore/discover effective ministries and entertainment, and time for ecumenical networking. The Conference and Retreat Center at Stony Point is a wonderful complex, meals are tasty, the rooms are simple and comfy (two beds per room with linens, all you need). Price is reasonable plus there are limited scholarships for students. Just an hour north of New York City.
