ASNY annually awards Prizes for the best papers
from graduate and undergraduate students at our
member institutions. See our list of previous
winners below.
Congratulations to our 2018 Awardees!
2018 Graduate Student Prize Winner: Kassandra
Anderson, Cornell (recommended by Dong Lai), for the
paper "Moderately eccentric warm Jupiters from
secular interactions with exterior companions"
2018 Graduate Student Prize Winner: Eileen Gonzales,
CUNY (recommended by Jacqueline Faherty), for the
paper "Understanding fundamental properties and
atmospheric features of subdwarfs via a case study
of SDSS J125637.13-022452.4"
Graduate Student Prize
This is awarded each year for the best research
paper on some aspect of research in astronomy
submitted to the Prize Committee. The submitted
materials are quite often derived from the
dissertation of the student, but they can be from
any original research. In the case of work done in
collaboration with a faculty member, that faculty
member should write a letter to the Committee in
which their participation and that of the student
are clearly detailed.The Prize winner receives a
check for $500 when the Prize lecture is
delivered.
Undergraduate Student
Prize
This is awarded each year for the best research
paper on some aspect of research in astronomy
submitted to the Prize Committee. The materials
submitted can be from any original research done
by the student. In the case of work done in
collaboration with a faculty member, that faculty
member should write a letter to the committee in
which their participation and that of the student
are clearly detailed. The student’s faculty
advisor should write a letter in support of the
project to the Prize Committee. The Prize winner
receives a check for $500 when the Prize lecture
is delivered.
Submission Instructions
To submit an entry please send email with
attachments (preferred) or if by surface mail,
three paper copies, to the address below. The
deadline is typically in late April or early May.
The announcement of the Prize winner will be made
at the spring meeting of ASNY.
